My journey of healing started with my son, Seth.  After he was diagnosed with Autism, my own health started to decline.

When we got our son’s diagnosis, my instinct as his mother was to pour everything into him, and to do everything I possibly could to help him get better.  He spent his days screaming and banging his body against the wall.  He was alive, but wasn’t truly participating in life and I wanted to see him thrive.

Whether your story is of a child’s illness or not, I’m sure you have been in a situation where you have completely forgotten your own needs and “lost” yourself to something or someone else.  The things I was doing to create health and joy went out the window when my son needed so much attention.  I neglected myself, and my health declined.

In an attempt to heal Seth, we started down the road of alternative health.  We went to doctors, specialists, we changed our diet, bought expensive supplements, took herbs, did homeopathy, went to healers.  We did everything possible.

And I got sick.

I started stressing about every morsel of food that passed our lips.  I was worried about toxins in our cleaning supplies, food, toiletries, and in the air.  I worried about chlorine in baby carrots.  Detox, probiotics, supplements, toxins, leaky gut, nutrient deficiencies – this is what I was thinking about for most of the day.  All of the time I use to spend doing things I enjoyed, were now filled with research.  Constantly looking for answers, and getting sick in the process.


After a few years, I was struggling with anxiety, panic disorder, adrenal fatigue, Hashimoto’s, and food intolerances.

But, I kept pushing forward.  Tweaking our diet more, researching more, changing supplements.

And NOTHING changed.  

The stress of my everyday life, coupled with my building stress around health, started to wear on me.

During this journey to “health”, I got to a point where I wasn’t feeling any joy or happiness anymore.  I became so stressed out about my health, and my son’s health, that I grew more and more sick.

And it was SO frustrating.  How could I be doing ALL of this to be healthy and feeling worse than I ever had in my life?!

I was missing the key to thriving health and emotional balance.  Nobody in alternative health was talking about it, and I had to figure it out on my own.

Radiant health doesn’t come from a health food store.  It comes from within.

I was so focused on diet, exercise, sleep, and supplements that I forgot what was most important.  Without the key, none of these other modalities or diets or supplements could ever “work”.

I was missing the biggest piece of the puzzle to health – STRESS!  Particularly the importance of releasing stress, healing emotional trauma, and the creating a mindset for thriving health.

As humans, we are wired to seek out pleasure and joy.  When we are in the flow of happiness, our lives seem to smooth out effortlessly.  Health comes naturally.

I wasted years focusing (and stressing) on diet, exercise, supplements, etc.  Not to discount those things, because they are important and do play a big role in health.  But, I was completely forgetting about one of the biggest pieces of the puzzle – my emotions, energy, and mental state.  Stressing over my health was doing more harm than good.

How to Get Out of Stress Mode

Stress Mode refers to chronic or acute feelings of fear, overwhelm, stuck, depleted, and frustration.  When we are stuck in stress mode, our health declines.

Stress is at the root of all physical and emotional imbalances.

Emotional balance and proper stress relief practices are essential to a joyful, happy, and energized life!

If you have been on the rollercoaster of finding the “perfect” diet, losing the extra weight, achieving “perfect” health, etc., then it might be time to just focus on your emotional wellness for a while.  After bringing joy back into your life, your health is guaranteed to improve.

The best part, it’s all fun stuff!  Stress relief can be enjoyable!  Here are a few of my favorite ways to rebalance stress and feelings of overwhelm, anxiety, and frustration.

  1.   Emotional Freedom Technique is a great way to detox out our daily stresses and negative emotions.  EFT is a powerful combination of ancient energy medicine techniques and modern psychology.  Tapping on meridian points and acknowledging how you feel gives your body the opportunity to process and release stress and built up emotional trauma.  EFT is something I teach clients to use as a daily upkeep tool in between their sessions with me.  Follow along with these simple videos to release depression and anxiety:



  1. 10 Minute Sensory Breaks. This is a tool I learned to help my autistic son recover from daily stress and overwhelm.  Every few hours, take a 5-10 minute break.  Mute your phone, close your computer, turn off the music, and sit or lie down comfortably.  Just breath.  Put your hand on your belly and chest.  Feel the air coming in and out of your lungs.  Put your awareness on the calm and stillness of the moment.  Doing this a few times a day will prevent stress build up, emotional eating episodes, anger outbursts, headaches, frustration, anxiety, and other ways that your body manifests stress.  No fancy meditation techniques required.
  1. We are humans and as part of our innate survival mechanisms, we need deep loving connection to other humans.  Our society has become so technology driven that sometimes we forget to put the phone down and look someone in the eyes!  But, it’s essential for our health and wellbeing.  Give someone a hug.  Go to lunch with a friend.  Turn off the TV and instead play a game with your family this evening.  Ask for help if you need it.  Find a community of like-minded people who appreciate your presence.

When we feel good, we thrive.  So, just for today, drop the rules and pressures you’ve put on yourself.  Give yourself a break.  Go have fun instead.  Watch a funny movie with your kids.  Have a dance party.  Go for a walk.  Jump on a trampoline.  Have lunch with a friend.  See how you feel afterwards, and let me know.

Healing is simpler than you’ve been lead to believe.  It starts with a positive thought, and is created through joy!
